Now I realise why I still keep those CD´s deep in that cupboard. Why I still have a physical newspaper. It´s to increase the chance my children will heritate culture. Because this way it’s not completely intangible, like digital can be. My six year old son, asks me questions on Syria. On the economy. Because he sees the paper on the table.
We also have lots of books around the house. Owning books in the home is one of the best things you can do for your children academically, this article says. It’s a great piece on why streaming stuff does not quite do the job when it comes to developing intellects.
I love my job at a newspaper. I know there are thousands of children eating breakfast today at tables with relevant reading material.
And those CD’s in my cupboard. One day I imagine I will go through them with my sons, when they get a little older. It might become meaningful to them, that those artifacts are a way to connect back to us.
